Ofsted Report

Update – January 2025
We are pleased to share the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection, which took place on the 19th and 20th November 2024. This was an ungraded inspection, and The MFG has maintained its ‘Good’ rating, achieved in 2020.
Since joining Great Heights Academy Trust in February 2023, The MFG has undergone significant positive change. Following a period of leadership transition, we focused on refreshing the school’s culture, strengthening home-school relationships, and enhancing the quality of education. Since the appointment of our new Principal Alexandra Fuller in September 2023, we have worked tirelessly to create an inspiring, inclusive, and supportive environment where all students can thrive.

The inspection highlighted many strengths, including:

  • Behaviour and Personal Development: Students behave well, respect others, and feel safe in a positive school environment.
  • Curriculum: High academic expectations are supported by improved curriculum planning and research-based teaching strategies.
  • Extracurricular Opportunities: A wide range of activities, trips, and leadership roles help students build independence and responsibility.
  • Reading Support: Effective interventions like ‘Fixing Fluency,’ supported by the Great Heights English Hub, ensure students who struggle with reading receive the help they need.
  • Careers Guidance: High-quality advice equips students from Years 7 to 13 to make informed decisions about their futures.
  • Attendance: A whole-school focus on attendance has resulted in measurable improvements.

The report also identified areas for improvement:

  • Disadvantaged Students: We need to accelerate progress for disadvantaged students to ensure improved outcomes.
  • Post-16 Provision: Greater consistency is needed in implementing elements of the sixth form curriculum.
To address these areas, we are strengthening support for disadvantaged students, closely monitoring interventions, and ensuring consistency in sixth form curriculum delivery.
