Courses on offer at Mirfield College

What courses are available?

We offer a variety of A-Level courses, BTEC courses and CTEC courses. Find out more information about the courses we offer here

How many subjects can I study?

Students usually study three subjects, equivalent to 3 A-Levels, which will enable them to progress onto further education. Some students also choose to study for an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which helps individuals stand out when applying for universities or jobs.

Can I study two A-levels and one BTEC?

Yes, we allow students to mix and match courses, allowing them to study A-Levels and BTECs alongside each other.

What's the difference between A-levels and BTECs?

An A-level course is structured similarly to a GCSE in that students are taught information over two years before taking a final exam at the end of the course.

BTEC/CTEC courses focus on research and coursework over two years without an exam at the end.

More information about our programmes of study can be found here.

Applying to Mirfield College

How many GCSEs do I need to pass to get into Mirfield College?

  • To secure a place at Mirfield College studying A-Levels, you will need five GCSE passes at grade 5 or above including English and Maths.
  • To study BTECs, you will need five GCSE passes at grade 4 or above including English and Maths.

How do I apply?

Please visit get-into.co.uk to apply. If you are a student at a Kirklees secondary school, your school should be able to provide you with your account details. If your school has not signed up to Get Into, or you are not attending a school in Kirklees, you should register as a new user and indicate that your school is ‘out of area/not listed’. This will allow you to set up an account and complete the application form.

When do I enrol and what do I need to bring?

Enrolment opens on GCSE results day, in August. You will need to come into College, bringing your GCSE results and your passport/birth certificate with you. If you’re not able to attend on results day, there will be further opportunities to enrol, please contact us to find out more.

What happens on enrolment day?

If you have attended a one-to-one meeting prior to enrolment day, you will come into College for an informal chat about your results and the courses you would like to study. If you haven’t previously had a one-to-one meeting, we will conduct this on enrolment day to learn a bit more about your and you aspirations and interests.

Following discussion and confirmation of your chosen pathway, you will then have your photograph taken for your Mirfield College ID badge, whilst we take a photocopy of your passport/birth certificate for your College records.
